Vinyl Decal Pricing Calculator – Work Out Your Cost and Price Per Decal
Pricing a decal is one of those things that looks simple until you try it. Charge too little and you work for free; charge too much and nobody buys. Most people who start selling vinyl decals guess a number, and many of them only count the vinyl.
I’ve made and sold decals for years, and the most common pricing mistake I see is leaving things out of the cost. So here’s a calculator that adds up everything for one decal — vinyl, transfer tape, waste, your time and extras — and then shows what price a given markup gives you.

Work out your cost and selling price per decal from your own material prices
- Vinyl (incl. waste):0.00
- Transfer tape (incl. waste):0.00
- Labor:0.00
- Other costs:0.00
- Profit per decal:0.00
- Profit margin (of selling price):0%
- Order total (price x quantity):0.00
- Order profit:0.00
All prices are numbers you type in, so the result is only as accurate as your inputs. The example values are placeholders, not real market prices. Fees (marketplace, payment, tax) and minimum order charges are not included.
How to Use It
- Enter the decal size. Width and height of the finished decal, plus how many you’re making. You can switch between inches/feet and cm/meters.
- Enter your own vinyl roll. Roll price, width and length. The calculator turns this into a cost per square inch (or cm²) for you.
- Enter your transfer tape roll the same way. If you don’t use any, set the price to 0.
- Add waste. Vinyl is cut from a rectangle, and spacing between pieces and weeding mistakes use up material. 10–20% is a reasonable starting range, but use what you actually see.
- Add your time. How many minutes one decal takes (cutting, weeding, taping, packing) and what you want to earn per hour.
- Pick a markup. The calculator shows the selling price and your profit.
All prices are numbers you type in. I haven’t put real market prices in, because they change by supplier, country and quantity. The pre-filled values are only placeholders so the page isn’t empty.
What the Default Example Shows
With the placeholder numbers (a 10 × 3 in decal, a 12 in × 30 ft vinyl roll at 25, tape at 15, 10 minutes of labor at 15 per hour, 15% waste, 0.50 for packaging), the calculator gives:
| Part | Per decal |
|---|---|
| Vinyl | 0.20 |
| Transfer tape | 0.12 |
| Labor | 2.50 |
| Other | 0.50 |
| Total cost | 3.32 |
The interesting part isn’t the exact number — it’s the proportions. In this example, the material is a small fraction of the cost and your time is the biggest part. That’s typical for small decals, and it’s why “vinyl cost × 2” pricing often leaves people underpaid. Change the numbers to your own and see where your cost really goes.
Markup vs. Margin: Don’t Mix Them Up
These two get confused all the time, and they give different numbers:
- Markup is how much you add on top of your cost. A 100% markup on a cost of 3.32 gives a price of 6.64.
- Margin is the share of the selling price that is profit. That same 6.64 price has a margin of 50%, not 100%.
The calculator shows both, so you can compare against whichever one you think in.
What the Calculator Doesn’t Include
- Marketplace, payment and shipping fees, and sales tax or VAT.
- Equipment costs like your cutting machine, blades and software.
- Minimum order or setup charges for custom work.
- Complex designs. A very intricate decal takes much longer to weed than its size suggests, so raise the labor minutes for those.
If you sell on a marketplace, add the fee percentage to your costs before you decide on the markup.
A Practical Way to Use It
Run your three or four most common sizes through it once and write down the prices. After that you don’t need to recalculate every time — you have a price list. Re-check it when your vinyl price changes.
